President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the country is moving in the right direction, saying the difficult period and sacrifices experienced by citizens will eventually give way to peace, development and improved living conditions.

Tinubu made the statement in a message delivered by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, during a special prayer session held at the National Mosque in Abuja to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

Abbas represented the President at the event and urged Nigerians to remain hopeful despite the economic and social difficulties facing the country. He said the sacrifices made by citizens over the years would contribute to building a better future for the nation.
The President, according to Abbas, believes Nigeria has reached a stage where it can begin to see the results of the challenges it has endured and the measures taken to address them.
Tinubu acknowledged that Nigerians had faced difficult circumstances but said the country’s 66-year journey since independence had also been marked by growth, resilience and achievements.
He described Nigeria as a mature nation that should draw lessons from its experiences while making use of the opportunities that have emerged throughout its history.
Abbas said the President’s message was intended to reassure Nigerians and encourage them not to lose confidence in the country despite the difficulties being experienced.

He also conveyed assurances that peace and development would return, while expressing confidence that conditions would improve as the democratic process continued.
The Speaker said Nigeria’s democratic experience remained important to addressing longstanding national challenges, strengthening institutions and creating an environment for sustainable development.
He appealed to Nigerians to allow government policies and programmes sufficient time to produce results, noting that some of the problems facing the country had developed over many years.
Abbas said the National Assembly would continue to support initiatives aimed at strengthening democratic institutions, improving national security, expanding economic opportunities and improving the welfare of citizens.
He added that the responsibility for nation-building should not rest solely on government, urging citizens to contribute to the development of the country through unity and active participation.
The Speaker encouraged Nigerians to use the independence anniversary to reflect on the country’s progress, acknowledge areas where it had faced difficulties and renew their commitment to building a peaceful, prosperous and united nation.
The prayer session was attended by government officials, other dignitaries and Muslim faithful, who prayed for peace, stability and continued development across the country.
