The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Enugu State, Uche Nnaji, has chosen Chijioke Ugwu as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.

Nnaji announced Ugwu’s selection in a statement issued by his media team, describing the choice as part of efforts to bring a new generation of leaders into the political leadership of Enugu State.

Ugwu, an entrepreneur, philanthropist and community leader from Nguru in Nsukka Local Government Area, is expected to contribute his private-sector experience to the PDP ticket.
Nnaji said Ugwu’s background in business, particularly his experience operating in Lagos, had exposed him to managing people, identifying business opportunities and developing enterprises.
He said those experiences could be applied to efforts aimed at supporting businesses, creating employment and expanding opportunities for young people in Enugu State.
Born in 1977, Ugwu attended Community Primary School, Nguru, and St Teresa’s College, Nsukka, before obtaining a degree in Philosophy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
After completing the National Youth Service Corps programme, he entered the logistics sector and established Windemol Maritime and Logistics Limited, a freight forwarding company.

He later founded Sokabell Nigeria Limited, which operates in contracting and consultancy, as well as Magik Stars Hospitality Nigeria Limited, with interests in tourism and hospitality.
According to the statement, his businesses have provided employment opportunities for graduates and supported young people in acquiring professional skills.
Ugwu has also participated in community development and philanthropic activities despite having limited experience in partisan politics.
He is a director and co-founder of the Felistas Foundation, which he established with his siblings in memory of their late mother. The foundation has supported pupils and students through donations of educational materials, scholarships and financial assistance to people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The statement said the foundation had distributed exercise books to primary school pupils across Nkpunano Ward and provided other forms of educational support.
Ugwu’s contributions to his community have also received traditional recognition. The traditional ruler of Nguru, Igwe Linus Nosike Obayi, conferred on him the chieftaincy title of Eweluchi Bube Uzo I of Nguru Nsukka.
Ugwu is married to Chinonye Ugwu, and they have four children.
