Senator Shehu Buba of Bauchi South Senatorial District is facing fresh allegations of having links with suspected bandits, accusations he has repeatedly denied.

The latest allegation was made by a resident identified as Hassan during an interview with social media broadcaster D English Alhaji Media. Hassan reportedly accused the senator of supporting individuals linked to banditry in the area.

He also alleged that associates of wanted bandit leader Dogo Gide were brought to Abuja for specialised training through the assistance of one of Buba’s aides.
Buba rejected the claims, accusing Hassan of being sponsored by political opponents to damage his reputation. The senator said he had already petitioned the Inspector-General of Police over the matter and claimed that four suspects had been arrested and would soon face prosecution.
He further alleged that Hassan had left Nigeria for Niger Republic, where he continued online broadcasts against him.
However, the Bauchi State Police Command said it could not confirm the senator’s claim of arrests. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, said the command had not received any formal petition concerning the latest allegation.
The controversy comes after previous allegations involving Buba and suspected bandits.

The latest accusations have also triggered calls for an independent investigation. Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, urged the DSS to clarify the status of its investigation and called on the National Assembly to examine the allegations.
Buba’s ally, Mukhtar Gwarzo, also defended the senator while supporting a thorough investigation. He said the allegations were too serious to be ignored because of their possible implications for national security.
Buba has faced other allegations in the past, including claims in 2025 that he facilitated a peace arrangement involving wanted terror kingpin Bello Turji. The senator rejected those allegations and, through his lawyers, petitioned the police over what he described as a campaign of defamation and cyber harassment.
His legal representatives accused several individuals, including Hassan, of spreading allegations against the lawmaker and called for an investigation into those allegedly financing the campaign.
