Wike Accuses State Governors of Working Against Him

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has accused the governors of Imo and Kwara states, Hope Uzodinma and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, of working against him despite the political support he claimed to have given them in the past.

Wike made the allegations during a media interaction in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he discussed his political relationships with the two governors and his position ahead of the 2027 elections.

The FCT minister said AbdulRazaq had been involved in efforts to undermine him and had allegedly accused him of backing political candidates who were opposed to the Kwara governor’s preferred choices.

Wike said he had personally confronted the Kwara governor over the issue because he does not avoid matters he believes he can defend.

He also recalled his political relationship with Uzodinma, saying the Imo governor was aware of the support he had received from him in the past. Wike, however, suggested that the relationship had become strained because the support was not adequately returned.

According to the minister, he had provided political assistance to some influential members of the All Progressives Congress who later left the party for the Peoples Democratic Party. He argued that instead of moving into an opposition coalition against President Bola Tinubu, some of those politicians were given political space within the PDP.

Wike maintained that the disagreements with the two governors would not change his political priority. He said his attention remained on supporting Tinubu’s bid for another term in office and that personal disputes would not prevent him from pursuing that objective.

The former Rivers State governor also rejected claims that he was working against APC governors. He challenged those making such allegations to point to the support they had given him during his own political struggles.

Wike said he had always been open about his political decisions and had never concealed his intentions from those involved in the country’s political affairs.
