The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced maintenance work at the 330/132kV Gwagwalada Transmission Substation in Abuja, leading to a temporary interruption in electricity supply to several parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

The maintenance exercise began on Wednesday and is expected to last for three hours, with TCN technicians scheduled to work between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

According to the company, the work is focused on urgent maintenance of the 33kV, 6MVA earthing reactor at the transmission substation. The equipment requires attention to support the continued operation of the facility and maintain the reliability of the transmission network.
During the exercise, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to receive electricity from the substation for distribution to customers in some affected locations.

Areas expected to experience the temporary power interruption include the vicinity of Aso Villa, Asokoro, African Medical Centre, Kabusa, EFAB Estate, Apo Resettlement, Zone E Extension and Trademoore, as well as nearby communities.
TCN said electricity supply to the affected areas would be restored after the maintenance work is completed and the necessary operational checks are carried out.
The company also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to electricity users in the affected locations, noting that the exercise is necessary to address the equipment issue at the substation.
The temporary outage comes as part of efforts to maintain critical transmission infrastructure and ensure that faults and equipment problems are addressed before they develop into more serious disruptions.
