President Bola Tinubu has appointed Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

Enitan’s appointment will take effect on August 27, 2026, following the retirement of the current Head of Service, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is expected to leave office after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60.

The appointment was announced on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Enitan, an indigene of Osun State, is currently the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service. He has spent seven years and seven months as a Permanent Secretary.
During his career, he served at the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President. He currently heads the Federal Ministry of Education as Permanent Secretary.
The Presidency said his extensive experience in government and knowledge of the operations of the Federal Civil Service prepared him for the new assignment.
Tinubu thanked Walson-Jack for her contributions to the public service, particularly the reforms and new initiatives recorded during her tenure.
The President also wished her well in retirement and praised her years of service to the country.
Tinubu tasked Enitan with continuing ongoing reforms in the Civil Service while improving professionalism, efficiency and accountability.
He also urged the incoming Head of Service to promote a merit-based and innovative public service that can respond effectively to the needs of Nigerians and support the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Enitan was born on December 12, 1966. He attended Ajibode Grammar School in Ibadan and the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife.
He later studied at the University of Lagos, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking in 1988.
In 2015, he earned a Master of Science degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia.
