Armed men attacked Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina, in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State on Tuesday, abducting four students, the school principal and a National Examinations Council (NECO) ad hoc official during an ongoing examination.

The incident happened at about 5:25 p.m. while candidates were writing their NECO examination, according to the Kogi State Police Command.

Following the attack, security agencies, including the police, began a joint search-and-rescue operation to locate the victims and bring the attackers to justice.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, confirmed the incident and disclosed that one of the kidnapped students had already been rescued. She added that efforts were continuing to free the remaining victims and track down those responsible for the attack.
She also said the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, was heading to the scene alongside the Brigade Commander and the State Security Adviser to the Governor, Commodore Jerry Omodara (Rtd), to assess the situation firsthand and coordinate the response.
The police added that a more comprehensive statement would be released after further verified details about the incident become available.
