The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Muhammad Sani, an alleged associate of notorious bandit Danranmi, to 20 years in prison for withholding information that could have led to the arrest of the wanted criminal.

Justice Emeka Nwite delivered the judgment on Monday after finding Sani guilty in a case brought against him by the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to the court, Sani was convicted for concealing information that would have assisted security agencies in apprehending Danranmi, who is accused of supplying arms and ammunition to kidnappers and bandits.

Justice Nwite imposed a 20-year prison sentence on Sani for each of counts one and two of the charge.

The court ruled that the prison terms would run concurrently, meaning the sentences would be served at the same time rather than separately.
The judge also ordered that the jail term should take effect from January 11, 2023, the day Sani was arrested.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the DSS had arraigned Sani on a four-count charge involving terrorism-related offences.
The charges were filed under Section 26(1) of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022, while the punishment was based on the provisions of Section 16(1)(b) of the same law.
