Rivers ADC Picks Deputy Gov Candidate

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has named David Okumgba as its deputy governorship candidate for Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Rivers State Chairman of the party, Chukwudi Dimgba, who confirmed that Okumgba will run alongside the party’s governorship candidate and former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr Gabriel Pidomson.

Dimgba described Okumgba as an experienced politician with a record of leadership in both the private sector and public life. He said the party believes his experience and political background will strengthen its campaign ahead of the election.

According to the state chairman, the ADC ticket brings together competence, experience and a common goal of delivering better governance for the people of Rivers State. He urged residents of the state to support the Pidomson-Okumgba team as the party prepares for the 2027 polls.

The party said Okumgba has served in several leadership positions, including South-South Zonal Secretary and South-South Zonal Publicity Secretary of a major political party. He also previously chaired the Appeal Committee for Senatorial Primaries in Edo State.

It added that Okumgba had earlier contested for a seat in the Rivers State House of Assembly, describing his political journey as one rooted in grassroots representation and democratic participation.

The ADC said his political experience, organisational ability and understanding of Rivers State’s political environment make him a suitable running mate for Pidomson.

The party maintained that the governorship ticket is built on plans to promote good governance, accountability, economic development, improved security and equal opportunities for residents across the state.

Dimgba also appealed to party members, supporters and the people of Rivers State to welcome Okumgba and work together to build support for the party ahead of the election.

He added that the Rivers ADC remains committed to uniting the people and offering leadership that will meet the expectations of the state’s residents.
