Speaking on the development, Wike noted that several countries with little football reputation managed to qualify, making Nigeria’s absence even more difficult for fans to accept.

He said the situation had saddened football lovers across the country.

The minister stated that Nigerians are unhappy with the team’s performance and believe the players and officials should understand the level of disappointment among supporters.

He added that the country expected better results from a team with such a rich football history.

Wike urged the Super Eagles to take the concerns of fans seriously and work towards restoring confidence ahead of future competitions.

He said Nigerians remain passionate about football and want to see the national team return to winning ways.
