Senate To Review Oshiomhole’s Forgery Controversy

Fresh tension is building in the Senate as lawmakers prepare to resume on Tuesday, with growing indications that Senator Adams Oshiomhole’s comments on the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan may come under official scrutiny.

The issue is expected to surface during an emergency plenary called by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The controversy began after Oshiomhole suggested that some senators’ signatures may have been improperly attached to the report that led to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s six-month suspension.

Although the former Edo State governor later clarified that he never accused anyone of forgery, his remarks sparked concern among several lawmakers who are now pushing for the Senate to address the matter formally.

Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu said the upper chamber would review the comments and determine its position.

He maintained that Senate decisions are taken openly during plenary sessions and insisted that no senator had complained of forged signatures in relation to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension.

The matter gained fresh attention after Senator Ireti Kingibe disclosed that she never saw the committee report used to suspend the Kogi Central lawmaker.

Kingibe said she was attending a tax reform retreat at the time and only signed the attendance register before leaving.

Her revelation has added a new twist to a controversy that continues to generate debate within the National Assembly.
