The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Semilola Monday, also known as Ankara, allegedly climbed over the palace fence and entered the premises on June 3.

According to the police, palace workers and residents challenged him, but he failed to provide a clear explanation and attempted to flee.

Police said the suspect sustained injuries during the chase and was taken to the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital for treatment.

After recovering, he reportedly admitted entering the palace unlawfully but denied having any intention to harm the monarch or anyone else, blaming his actions on excessive substance use.

A police committee led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department found that the suspect was not carrying any weapon when he was arrested.

He was later arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Osogbo on a charge of attempted felony and has been remanded while investigations continue.
