Senate Orders Ex NNPC Boss Arrest Over N210tn Probe

The Senate Committee on Public Accounts has ordered the arrest of former NNPC Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, after he failed to appear before lawmakers investigating allegations of unaccounted funds linked to the oil company between 2017 and 2023.

The decision followed repeated absences from the committee’s hearings.

Lawmakers rejected calls to grant Kyari more time despite reports that he was receiving medical treatment abroad.

Members of the committee argued that the investigation had suffered enough delays and insisted that the Senate must enforce its authority.

The probe centres on claims that about ₦210 trillion could not be accounted for in NNPC records during the period under review.

However, former Chief Financial Officer Umar Ajiya Isa strongly disputed the allegation, maintaining that the figure was inconsistent with the company’s total earnings and financial reports.

The committee directed that Kyari be brought before it and ordered other former NNPC officials to return within two weeks as the investigation continues.

Lawmakers said they remain determined to establish the facts behind the disputed financial records.
