NDC Unveils Obi As Consensus Presidential Candidate
The Nigerian Democratic Congress has unveiled Peter Obi as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
The announcement came days after Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso joined forces under the opposition coalition.
Party sources said discussions are already pointing towards Kwankwaso emerging as Obi’s running mate.
The move is expected to reshape political calculations ahead of the next general election.
Kwankwaso, while speaking during a radio interview, expressed confidence about securing the vice-presidential position.
He also said the alliance could create a path for Kano State to eventually produce a Nigerian president.
The development has sparked fresh debate over power rotation between the North and South, especially as political groups continue to argue over which region should produce Nigeria’s next president after 2027.
