The commission said the move would help protect consumers from unfair charges and improve transparency in electricity distribution.

It noted that accurate metering remains key to building trust between consumers and power providers.

It added that estimated billing has long been a source of dispute between customers and distribution companies, often leading to complaints and dissatisfaction.

The agency believes wider adoption of metering reforms will reduce such conflicts.

FCCPC encouraged collaboration between state governments, regulators and electricity firms to ensure smoother implementation of the policy across the country.
