Omakwu expressed concern that the area serves as a key public space for exercise, social gatherings and small businesses.

She urged authorities to keep it open for residents, warning that losing such a space would affect many people who rely on it daily.

The cleric also referenced past developments in the city where public access to certain areas became restricted over time.

She called for the preservation of the lake as a shared space for leisure and community life.

Despite her concerns, she acknowledged ongoing infrastructure work by the FCT administration.

The appeal comes months after the government entered partnerships with private firms to upgrade the Jabi Lake area as part of efforts to boost tourism and economic activity.
