His decision comes at a time when political activities are building ahead of the 2027 elections. He said the move followed growing concerns about the state of the party.

He explained that the exit was not driven by any personal dispute with key figures in the party. He maintained respect for leaders such as David Mark and Atiku Abubakar despite leaving.

According to him, the choice was shaped by ongoing internal problems and pressure from outside the party. He described the wider political climate as “toxic” and difficult to navigate.

Obi pointed to repeated court cases, internal divisions and rising mistrust within the party as major issues. He said these problems were distracting attention from real national concerns.

He added that similar challenges had earlier forced him out of the Labour Party.

While ruling out desperation for office, he stressed his focus remains on building a better country. He reaffirmed his belief that “A new Nigeria is possible” and pledged to stay committed to that vision.
