PDP Crisis Worsen After Supreme Court Verdict

The Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday in Nigeria rejected a claim by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara to take over its leadership after a Supreme Court decision nullified the November 2025 Ibadan convention.

The party insisted there was no leadership vacuum and warned Wabara against speaking on its behalf. The development followed confusion over the implications of the court’s verdict.

Wabara had announced that the Board of Trustees would assume control of the party, citing the PDP constitution and the need to prevent a vacuum.

He also argued that actions taken by some party officials, including appointments and the March 2026 convention, were invalid. His position came immediately after the apex court ruling.

The PDP, through its spokesperson, dismissed those claims, stating that the judgment only addressed the legality of the Ibadan convention.

The party clarified that the court did not affirm any suspension or expulsion of its officials.

It maintained that its leadership structure remains intact under Abdulrahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu.

Party leaders called for calm and unity, urging members to avoid misinformation.

The Board of Trustees chairman said steps would be taken to strengthen stability, while Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan also advised dialogue among members.

The party leadership added that reconciliation efforts would begin to address internal disagreements.
