The board said the action went against its rules and assured that candidates’ rights were not meant to be violated during the ongoing UTME exercise.

The issue occurred during morning screening at the Esther Oshikoya CBT Centre, where a staff member allegedly asked candidates to remove or adjust their hijabs.

JAMB said it quickly stepped in, ordering that no such instruction should be given to any candidate.

According to the board, the act was carried out by an overzealous ad hoc official and not the centre itself.

It stressed that its guidelines fully respect religious dressing and do not require candidates to alter their attire.

JAMB added that all officials have been re-briefed to prevent a repeat of the incident.

It reassured candidates nationwide that their rights, including religious expression, remain protected throughout the examination period.
