Peter Obi has criticised the Federal Government after Nigeria’s position on the Global Terrorism Index placed it among the most affected countries.

He described the ranking as a troubling sign of poor leadership and worsening insecurity.

According to the report, Nigeria recorded a sharp rise in terrorism-related deaths in 2025, increasing from 513 in 2024 to 750. The country now ranks fourth globally, behind Pakistan, Burkina Faso and Niger.

Obi said while other nations are seeing fewer attacks, Nigeria appears to be moving in the opposite direction.

He linked the trend to weak governance, corruption, poor priorities, and neglect of security responsibilities.

He pointed to ongoing threats from Boko Haram, Islamic State West Africa Province, kidnappings, and rural violence, warning that lives are being lost daily.

He added that protecting citizens should remain the government’s primary duty.
