He remains in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) as the details of the new case are yet to be made public.

The decision follows earlier investigations by the Kaduna State Assembly into El-Rufai’s administration between 2015 and 2023.

The legislative probe reportedly flagged serious financial irregularities, while civil society groups staged protests demanding accountability.

His successor, Governor Uba Sani, has alleged that ₦423 billion could not be accounted for under El-Rufai, though former officials have dismissed this as politically motivated.

El-Rufai has also accused ICPC officials of pressuring him to quit politics in exchange for his release.

The case has drawn attention to tensions between El-Rufai and law enforcement.

The Nigeria Police Force insists that all actions, including the search of his Abuja residence, were carried out under valid warrants and statutory authority.

The Federal High Court in Abuja adjourned proceedings in El-Rufai’s rights enforcement suit until March 25, 2026, while the new trial in Kaduna awaits scheduling.
