He said his decision was driven by concerns about national security and the need to support efforts aimed at stabilising the country.

In a statement he signed on Wednesday, Ajia explained that months of consultation and reflection led him to conclude that the APC offers a stronger platform to address insecurity.

He added that his move was not in pursuit of any political office, noting that he has served the nation in a private capacity since leaving the Nigeria Police Force in 2017.

Ajia praised President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff and later Minister of Defence, describing it as a sign of commitment to tackling security challenges.

He pledged to contribute his experience to efforts against insurgency, banditry and other crimes.

His defection adds to a wave of exits from the PDP in Kwara State since the 2023 elections, with several former candidates and party leaders shifting allegiance ahead of the 2027 polls.

Analysts say the trend has reshaped the political landscape across parts of the state.
