Governors Seek Proof of Tinubu Debt Write Off
Nigerian governors are calling for evidence regarding President Bola Tinubu’s reported write-off of $1.42 billion and N5.5 trillion in legacy debts owed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) to the Federation.
The demand follows reports that the President cleared these substantial debts, sparking questions about transparency and accountability in the handling of public funds.
Governors want official documentation to confirm the action and its implications.
Officials have indicated that clarity is needed to assess the financial and legal impact of the write-off, including its effect on the country’s fiscal planning and public finances.
The governors have urged the federal government to provide full details to dispel doubts and maintain confidence in Nigeria’s management of national resources.
