The matter traces back to a disagreement involving Ahmad Ibrahim Ahmad Namadina, the governor’s special adviser on culture.

Reports say the issue began after Umar declined to take part in a proposed government-related promotional engagement, which later escalated into a personal dispute.

Security sources said both parties were earlier taken to the Department of State Services, where a temporary settlement was reached and caution was given to avoid further conflict.

The situation reportedly worsened when the governor’s aide later visited Umar’s shop with others, leading to an altercation in which she allegedly defended herself.

She is now facing multiple charges, including attempted culpable homicide, following her re-arraignment at the High Court after a Magistrate Court declined jurisdiction.

The case has raised concern among observers, especially after it emerged that the state’s Commissioner for Justice is acting as counsel to the complainant, fuelling debate over fairness and due process.
