Dispute In Osun Teacher Recruitment

The Osun State Government and the All Progressives Congress are locked in a fresh dispute over the ongoing teachers’ recruitment exercise, with both sides trading blame over transparency and timing.

The disagreement centres on the distribution of appointment letters to successful applicants, which the state government says is part of a planned reform programme.

The opposition APC, however, argues that the process lacks clarity and appears rushed after years of delay.

Speaking for the government, the Commissioner for Education said the recruitment followed a decision taken by the State Executive Council in December 2025.

The party said officials failed to clearly state how many teachers would be employed and questioned why replacements had not been fully arranged for the 1,500 teachers removed from service shortly after the current administration assumed office in 2022.

The opposition further claimed that the government did not properly assess the financial impact before announcing the recruitment and suggested the move was politically motivated.

The row adds to growing tension in the state, with education policy now at the centre of a wider political battle.
