Julius Abure Takes Fresh Action After Being Sacked By Court

A fresh legal fight has opened in Abuja after a Federal High Court recognised a caretaker committee led by Senator Nenadi Usman as the leadership of the Labour Party.

The ruling has drawn a swift response from the faction loyal to Julius Abure, which says it will challenge the decision.
The judgment was delivered on Wednesday by Justice Peter Lifu, who relied on an earlier Supreme Court ruling from April 4, 2025, to affirm the caretaker committee.

Reacting in Abuja, the Abure-led faction rejected the ruling, insisting it goes against the position of the Supreme Court. Through its National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the group argued that courts lack the power to decide who leads a political party, describing the judgment as flawed.
The faction also raised concerns about how the case was handled, pointing to changes in judges, the withdrawal and reassignment of similar cases, and what it described as a rushed process that denied it a fair chance to respond fully before judgment was delivered.
It further maintained that there was no leadership gap in the party, stressing that a national convention held in March 2024 produced the current leadership before the end of its tenure. With plans to appeal, the party’s internal struggle is set to continue, keeping the Labour Party locked in uncertainty.
