The New Nigeria People’s Party has ruled out any chance of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso contesting the 2027 presidential election on its platform.

The party says the decision is final and based on internal disputes that followed the 2023 polls.
The announcement was made on Sunday in Lagos by the NNPP National Secretary, Ogini Olaposi. He said the party’s 2027 ticket will be open only to confirmed members who meet its requirements, stressing that Kwankwaso no longer qualifies.

According to the party, the fallout began after the expiration of a 2022 agreement between the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement. After the election, the party accused leaders of the movement of actions that went against its interests, leading to the expulsion of Kwankwaso and other top figures, a decision it says still stands.
Olaposi said the NNPP is taking a different approach ahead of 2027, unlike in 2023 when the ticket was reserved for one person. He revealed that several aspirants, including two based outside Nigeria, have already shown interest in running for president under the party.

He also dismissed claims that Kwankwaso remains a major political force, arguing that his influence has weakened, even in Kano State, following defections by key allies to the ruling APC.
The party added that any future alliances will be handled only by its recognised national leadership, noting that expelled members have no authority to speak or negotiate on behalf of the NNPP ahead of the next general election.
