Boat Mishap Claims Many Lives In Yobe

Twenty nine people have died after a passenger boat accident in Yobe State, as rescue teams continue efforts to locate about ten others still unaccounted for.

The incident took place in Garin Garbi community of Nguru Local Government Area, where the boat was transporting residents across a local river before it capsized.

The tragedy happened on Friday, with recovery work stretching into the following days as authorities worked to determine the full impact of the crash.
The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency confirmed that all 29 recovered bodies have been buried in line with religious practices, while 13 injured passengers who received medical care have been discharged.

Officials involved in the response said the boat was carrying more passengers than it could safely handle, a common risk in riverine communities where boats serve as the main means of transport.
Search operations are still ongoing, with emergency workers, local divers, and security personnel combing nearby waterways in hopes of finding the remaining missing victims.
