Residents of Sokoto State were urged on Wednesday to return dangerous materials taken from the site of a U.S. Christmas Day airstrike in Jabo community, as the Nigerian military raised concerns over public safety.

The call came from the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, where the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, said unauthorised persons had removed explosive items from the blast area.
He said the materials were highly risky and should never be handled by civilians, explaining that only trained military units are equipped to recover and neutralise such objects safely.
The military asked residents who picked up the items to take them to nearby military bases or recognised security posts, warning that keeping them could lead to serious harm or loss of life.

Onoja also appealed to the media to help spread the message, stressing that quick action would prevent further danger to individuals and the wider community.
The warning follows a joint Nigerian and U.S. airstrike on terrorist hideouts in Tangaza Local Government Area. Sokoto State authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing and said no civilian casualties were recorded, urging the public to cooperate with security agencies as assessments continue.
