Politics in Rivers State took another sharp turn on Tuesday as APC South South Vice Chairman Victor Giadom declared that no politician can win any contest in the state without the backing of Nyesom Wike.

The statement was made in Gokana Local Government Area during a thank-you visit by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory to community leaders and supporters, drawing attention to the growing power struggle in the state.
Giadom said Governor Siminalayi Fubara would not succeed politically in Rivers unless he aligns with Wike, describing the former governor as the undisputed political force in Gokana and across the state.
The APC leader stressed that the people of Gokana had already chosen their political direction, adding that the area would not support any candidate or movement that does not carry Wike’s approval.

Other political figures at the event echoed the same position, with former senator Magnus Abe saying the Ogoni people had firmly decided to stand with Wike and President Bola Tinubu, noting that unity was the reason for their political strength.
Local government leaders and state lawmakers also pledged loyalty, assuring that Gokana would follow Wike’s lead in future elections and political decisions.
In response, Wike said the visit was meant to appreciate the people for their long-standing support, urging them to remain united and patient as political decisions would be taken collectively when the time comes.
