PDP Rejects New Ambassadorial List

The Peoples Democratic Party has faulted the fresh list of 32 ambassadorial nominees released by the Presidency, saying the names put forward do not match what Nigerians expected after a long wait.

The party’s leadership reacted in Abuja, accusing the government of filling the list with people it believes carry poor public reputations and have not shown strong commitment to democratic values. The PDP argued that Nigeria has many capable hands who could represent the country better on the global stage.

Party spokesman Ini Ememobong said many Nigerians were already disappointed by the selection, adding that the nominees reflect the values of the administration that chose them. He noted that it took the President nearly three years to compile the list, yet the outcome still fell short of public hopes.

The party was especially displeased with the inclusion of former INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu. It argued that his time at the electoral commission was marked by broken promises and actions that damaged public trust, and said offering him a diplomatic post was troubling.

The PDP warned that ambassadors carry the country’s image abroad and insisted that sending nominees with controversial records could weaken Nigeria’s standing with other nations. It said the integrity of both the President and the envoys plays a direct role in how the world relates with the country.

The party called on the President to withdraw the list and bring forward nominees who have strong democratic records and the moral standing needed to represent Nigeria with pride.
