Makinde Seeks Investors For Circular Road Project

Governor Seyi Makinde has called on investors to support the development of the first segment of the Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road in Ibadan.

He made the appeal in his November newsletter, inviting companies in light industry, logistics, and housing to help turn the corridor into a major economic hub for Oyo State.

The call comes as the governor reviewed progress on the 110-kilometre road, which he said would open the state to new growth. Makinde visited Ologuneru in Ido Local Government Area to meet residents affected by the project and reminded them of the agreement reached last year to limit land acquisition to 150 metres on each side in already developed areas, while maintaining 500 metres only where the land is still open. He said this approach made it possible to complete nearly 32 kilometres without unnecessary displacement.

Work is now moving to the second segment covering about 40 kilometres, and some residents have raised fresh concerns. Makinde said he listened to their worries and explained that standard road designs require safety buffers and room for future expansion. He confirmed that any markings beyond the 150-metre limit in populated areas should be disregarded.

To give clarity, Makinde announced that the New Towns and Cities Development Authority will act as the sole channel for communication with affected communities. He assured residents that demolitions will not occur without compensation and added that disputed compensation cases will be re-evaluated.

Makinde said the project is not just about building a road but creating a long-term development corridor that will shape the state’s future. He highlighted its potential to host light manufacturing plants, logistics hubs, housing estates, mixed-use developments, and essential infrastructure such as water, power, and fibre networks.

He ended by urging investors to partner with the state as work advances from the Tech U axis, saying the corridor can become a strong economic backbone that drives jobs and innovation across Oyo State.
