The prosecution team in the terrorism case involving Nnamdi Kanu has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to impose the death penalty on the IPOB leader.

The request was made on Thursday by prosecuting counsel Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, shortly after the court convicted Kanu on three terrorism counts.

Awomolo told the court that more than 75 security officers had been killed in attacks linked to Kanu’s supporters. He argued that several Nigerians had also lost their lives and property in incidents tied to the group’s activities. According to him, applying the maximum punishment would deliver justice to families affected by the violence.

Justice James Omotosho, who delivered the earlier conviction, paused proceedings and fixed sentencing for a few minutes before 4pm. The court is expected to announce the sentence later today.
