The Federal Capital Territory is set to begin a new waste management system on Monday, November 17, 2025, following fresh approvals issued at the FCT Executive Committee meeting chaired by Minister Nyesom Wike on Thursday.

After the meeting, the Coordinator of the Abuja Municipal Management Council, Chief Felix Amechi Obuah, confirmed that the committee ratified new contracts for waste collection across the territory. The approval also includes basic treatment plants, supervisory vehicles, and other support services aimed at restoring order to the FCT’s sanitation system.

Obuah said the new arrangement is expected to tackle longstanding complaints about poor waste disposal, adding that residents should expect a cleaner and more organised Abuja once the system takes off.
The Satellite Towns Development Department also received approval for emergency evacuation of waste in the Dogon Gada area of AMAC. According to its secretary, Hon. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, ₦111.9 million has been released for clearing open dumps, waterways, and streams in the community.
On transportation, the FCT Transportation Secretary, Hon. Chinedum Elechi, announced funding approvals for printing services for the Directorate of Road Transport Services. He added that funds have been cleared for the maintenance of 34 old traffic lights and the installation of three new ones within the city.
Chief of Staff to the Minister, Hon. Chidi Amadi, said Wike remains committed to improving environmental cleanliness and building a world-class capital city. He noted that the new waste management regime reflects the minister’s insistence on restoring order and raising the standard of public sanitation in Abuja.
