Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin has demanded an apology from U.S. President Donald Trump following his remark describing Nigeria as “a disgraced country.”

Trump made the comment during a White House press briefing where he warned that Washington might take military action if the alleged killings of Christians in Nigeria continue.

Reacting in a viral video on Friday, Jibrin described Trump’s statement as offensive and a violation of diplomatic conduct. He said no foreign leader has the right to threaten military action against Nigeria without following international law.

Jibrin insisted that such remarks were inconsistent with the principles the United States claims to defend, especially respect for sovereignty and due process. He advised Trump to retract the statement and tender a public apology to Nigerians.
According to the Deputy Senate President, if the U.S. government has concerns about Nigeria’s internal affairs, it should approach the United Nations and seek a formal resolution instead of issuing unilateral threats.
Addressing an audience, Jibrin stated that Nigeria would not be intimidated by Trump’s rhetoric. He maintained that the country values mutual respect and would continue to stand firm in defending its dignity on the global stage.
He called on Washington to embrace dialogue and cooperation rather than confrontation, stressing that diplomacy remains the only path to sustaining peace between nations.
