Governor Douye Diri has formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), promising to deliver overwhelming support for the ruling party in Bayelsa State during the 2027 general election.

Speaking in Yenagoa on Monday after his defection, Diri said he was committed to working with stakeholders to secure 99 percent of votes for the APC across the state. He described his decision as one driven by unity and development, noting that Bayelsa would benefit more by aligning with the federal government.

According to him, the APC-led federal government has shown goodwill toward Bayelsa through various development initiatives, which, he said, convinced him that joining the ruling party was in the best interest of the people.
He urged residents to disregard claims suggesting internal divisions within the APC, insisting that the party in Bayelsa remains united and ready for victory in 2027.
