Radda Approves ₦677m For Bursary And Special Needs Scholarships

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has approved ₦677.6 million for bursary payments, academic excellence awards, and scholarships for students with special needs across tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

A statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Mohamed, said the approval reflects Radda’s commitment to education and inclusiveness under his Building Your Future agenda.

According to the statement, ₦283.5 million will go to newly admitted students as bursary allowances, ₦15 million for the State Government Award of Academic Excellence for First-Class graduates, and ₦7 million for students with special needs.

This follows an earlier release of ₦372 million in September for continuing students, bringing the total disbursement for the 2024/2025 session to ₦677.6 million.

Since taking office, Governor Radda has approved over ₦2.6 billion for scholarship and bursary programmes, benefitting tens of thousands of students across the state.

The Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Scholarship Board, Dr. Aminu Tsauri, hailed the governor’s decision as a major boost to human capital development, saying it gives renewed hope to students from low-income families.

Tsauri added that award letters will be distributed from October 28, while students in the Nigerian Law School are to report to the Scholarship Board for documentation between October 27 and 30.

He also noted that Katsina students are currently studying abroad under the state’s foreign scholarship scheme in fields such as Artificial Intelligence in China and Medicine in Egypt — part of efforts to equip the youth with global skills and knowledge.
