NELFUND Urges Universities To Update Student Data Ahead Of Loan Portal Opening

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has called on all accredited tertiary institutions to begin updating and uploading their student records on its verification portal ahead of the 2025–2026 academic session.

In a statement signed by the Fund’s Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, NELFUND described the exercise as an early step to make the verification and loan application process smoother for students once the portal officially opens.

The Fund directed universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education to upload complete and accurate details of all their students, including both returning and newly admitted ones. Each record must include a verifiable identifier such as an admission number or other approved means of identification.

NELFUND said the collaboration with tertiary institutions is central to achieving its goal of broadening access to higher education. The agency stressed that only students whose records have been verified through their schools will be eligible to apply for or receive education loans.

The Fund urged institutions to assign qualified officers to handle the data upload process in line with its technical requirements. It also appealed for swift compliance to ensure that no eligible student is left out once the loan application window opens.

According to the Fund, the cooperation of tertiary institutions remains vital to the success of the Education Loan Scheme, which aims to reduce financial barriers for Nigerian students seeking higher education.
