FG Launches 2025 Transparency And Integrity Index To Boost Accountability

The Federal Government has unveiled the 2025 Transparency and Integrity Index to strengthen openness and accountability in the public service.

The initiative was announced by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) in a statement issued by its Head of Strategic Communications, Aliyu Umar, in Abuja on Saturday.

Speaking at the launch, the Director-General of BPSR, Dasuki Arabi, described the Index as a major tool designed to improve transparency, ethical standards, and public trust across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. He said the index goes beyond rankings to promote a culture of responsibility and honesty in government operations.

Now in its fifth year, the Transparency and Integrity Index evaluates public institutions based on five key areas—financial management, anti-corruption control, open procurement, citizen engagement, and inclusive human resource management. Arabi said the 2025 assessment was conducted in partnership with the Centre for Fiscal Transparency and Public Integrity (CeFTPI).

He explained that the index aligns with the National Strategy for Public Service Reforms (NSPSR 2021–2025) and complements Nigeria’s commitments to the Freedom of Information Act and the Open Government Partnership. The initiative also supports the work of anti-corruption bodies like the ICPC and EFCC while reinforcing the country’s adherence to the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

Arabi expressed appreciation to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, development partners, and other stakeholders who contributed to the project’s success, noting that their collaboration continues to strengthen Nigeria’s public institutions.

Since its introduction, the Transparency and Integrity Index has served as a benchmark for improving governance and performance in the public sector. The Federal Government previously released the 2024 edition of the assessment on October 8, 2024, reaffirming its ongoing commitment to building a more accountable and transparent public service.
