Adeleke Vows To Recover Osun Local Government Funds

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke says his administration is determined to recover the state’s local government allocations allegedly withheld by the federal government, describing the action as unlawful and unfair to the people.

Speaking during an interview marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary, Adeleke reflected on the nation’s journey since 1960, saying that despite the struggles of war, military rule, and economic hardship, Nigeria’s unity remains intact. He called for renewed commitment to peace and collective sacrifice as the foundation for lasting national progress.

Assessing his nearly three years in office, Adeleke said his government has remained focused on its development agenda. He noted that workers now receive regular salaries, pensioners have been prioritized, and new projects are underway across schools, hospitals, and roads. According to him, the government’s people-first approach has rebuilt trust between citizens and the state.

Addressing the controversy over Osun’s withheld local government funds, the governor said his administration is taking legal steps to reclaim the money, insisting that the allocations rightfully belong to the people and are crucial for grassroots development. He assured residents that the matter is being handled lawfully and that the state will not back down until justice is served.

Adeleke also dismissed reports that sacked local government chairmen from the opposition party had received payments from a commercial bank in defiance of a court order. He warned that anyone caught tampering with public funds would face legal consequences, adding that all financial transactions must follow established state regulations.

Despite the financial constraints, the governor said his administration continues to meet salary obligations and execute major infrastructure projects through financial prudence. He attributed this to strict spending control, elimination of waste, and transparent use of public resources.

Adeleke reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance, stressing that his goal is to build a government that prioritizes citizens’ welfare and delivers tangible progress at all levels.
