Akume Says Nigeria’s Economy Growing Under Tinubu

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s economic direction under President Bola Tinubu, pointing to growth in gross domestic product and foreign reserves as signs of progress.

Akume spoke in Abuja during the inauguration and investiture of the Northern Christian Religious Leaders Assembly, a new body bringing together clerics from across the north. He said the economy was showing resilience with GDP growth at 4.4 percent and reserves rising to 42 billion dollars, which he described as evidence that the country was on the right path.

He stressed that Tinubu’s style of leadership, which cuts across religion and background, had been central to keeping the country united. He urged Nigerians to draw lessons from this inclusive approach and work together for development.

Akume tied his remarks to the theme of the event, which focused on the role of Christian leaders in nation building. He said government saw spiritual leadership as key in shaping values, promoting peace and guiding society. He added that unity and cooperation across groups would help tackle national challenges.

The National Chairman of NOCRELA, Archbishop JohnPraise Daniel, said the platform was created to give northern Christians a collective voice on issues of peace, justice and progress. He praised the administration for including Christians in government appointments and called on leaders to remain committed to fairness.

Other speakers, including Prof. Suleiman Bogoro, former head of TETFUND and grand patron of the new body, described insecurity as one of the biggest threats facing the north. He urged collective effort to overcome the problem, warning that insecurity had often been used to destabilise communities and blackmail governments.

Newly appointed officials of NOCRELA were decorated at the event, with representatives from traditional institutions in attendance. Leaders urged them to serve as good ambassadors of the church while contributing to national stability and development.

The gathering ended with a renewed call for unity, cooperation and collective responsibility in shaping Nigeria’s future.
