WAEC Commends Ekiti For Boosting ICT In Schools Ahead Of CBT Exams

The West African Examinations Council has commended the Ekiti State Government for upgrading ICT facilities in public schools as the council prepares to roll out computer-based testing for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination in the state.

WAEC’s Ekiti Branch Controller, Amos Dogari, made the commendation during an advocacy visit to the state commissioner for education, Olabimpe Aderiye, in Ado Ekiti. He noted that the investment would prepare both teachers and students for the new system while also improving examination integrity and promoting digital literacy.

According to him, the new CBT model will require students to answer multiple-choice questions on-screen, while essay and practical questions will be displayed on-screen but answered in paper booklets. He explained that the model is designed to speed up result processing, strengthen security against malpractice, and make the process more efficient and technologically adaptable.

Dogari also disclosed that sensitisation campaigns would be carried out across the three senatorial districts of the state to educate students, teachers, and parents about the new process. He stressed that this would ensure wider acceptance and reduce misunderstandings as the transition begins.

He clarified that Ekiti State has no outstanding debt to WAEC, describing the state government’s efforts as proactive and forward-looking.

Education commissioner Aderiye said the government had already provided laptops to all public secondary schools, making them ready for the transition. She reaffirmed the state’s commitment to technological advancement in education and pledged continued support for digital learning.

WAEC had earlier confirmed plans to fully migrate WASSCE to computer-based testing by 2026. The transition, which began with private candidates in 2024, has already recorded progress with five exams conducted in the new format. The council said the full deployment for school candidates would take place nationwide ahead of the 2026 deadline.
