The Federal Government has restated that tuition in all Federal Technical Colleges remains free and warned school heads against collecting unauthorised charges from students.

In a statement released on Wednesday and posted by the Ministry of Education on Thursday, Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa said the government is fully funding tuition and approved fees to make technical education accessible to every Nigerian child. Circulars have already been sent to all colleges to enforce compliance.

The government covers expenses including boarding, uniforms, textbooks, exercise books, prospectuses, ID cards, stationery, clubs and societies, medical care, vocational training, utilities, security, websites and e-results, Skool Media, extra lessons, and insurance. Parents are encouraged to report illegal demands through hotlines or email provided by the ministry.

Alausa clarified that while the government bears the core costs, boarding students are still required to bring personal items such as beddings, toiletries, buckets, rain boots, and cutlasses. Each student is also expected to submit one ream of A4 paper at registration.
The initiative falls under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places Technical and Vocational Education and Training at the center of human capital development and national competitiveness.
The minister assured that monitoring systems have been established to address violations quickly and called on parents, communities, and stakeholders to help safeguard the free-education policy. He stressed that no child should be denied technical education because of unlawful charges, adding that the policy is designed to produce skilled graduates who can drive national transformation.
