Igbo Union Backs Otti For 2027 Re-election

A socio-cultural group, Igbo Union Nzuko Ndi Igbo, has declared that Governor Alex Otti of Abia State would secure a landslide victory in the 2027 governorship election if the process is free and fair.

In a statement released by its convener, Prince Elias Odoemena, the group projected that Otti could win more than 83 percent of the votes, with other political parties sharing the remainder. He said the governor’s performance in just two years has endeared him to residents across ethnic lines.

The group pointed to Otti’s record in infrastructure, especially the construction of road networks in Aba, Umuahia, and other towns. They also commended his focus on human capital development and his ability to govern without resorting to borrowing, contrasting him with past leaders who left the state in debt.

According to Odoemena, Otti has raised the standard of governance by remaining accessible to the people and avoiding distractions that often come with political office. He described the governor as a calm and service-driven leader who prioritises the welfare of citizens.

The statement also noted that Otti’s family has maintained a low profile, with his wife staying away from lavish state functions. It further highlighted the governor’s commitment to staying within Abia to focus on governance, only leaving briefly for personal engagements.

Odoemena cautioned politicians who resort to blackmail against Otti, warning that such attacks would be seen as targeting the Igbo community.

The group also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for approving the South East Development Commission and supporting the development of the proposed Abia State Airport at Nsulu. They called on the federal government to also back the planned seaport project at Azumiri.
