NNPP Says Tinubu Policies Worsening Hardship Nationwide

The National Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Dr Ajuji Ahmed, has criticised the economic direction of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying the policies are hurting Nigerians across all regions.

Ahmed, in an interview, said citizens from the North to the South are struggling under tough economic conditions. He noted that market women, students, and professionals alike have voiced frustration over rising costs, loss of income, and a shrinking middle class.

On the debate over power rotation, Ahmed argued that while the practice has become part of Nigeria’s politics, it should not be treated as a constitutional rule. He maintained that competence should matter more than geography, adding that Nigerians deserve leaders who can deliver regardless of where they come from.

Speaking on the NNPP’s 2027 strategy, Ahmed said the party is preparing to spread beyond Kano, which it currently governs, and contest strongly across the federation. He recalled that in 2023, the NNPP won Kano without targeting the state alone, stressing that the next election will see a broader push into states such as Lagos, Ogun, Cross River, and Benue.

He dismissed claims that Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso has already been handed the 2027 presidential ticket, insisting the race remains open. According to him, Kwankwaso is the most visible aspirant for now, but others from across the country are welcome to contest under the NNPP platform.

On project distribution, Ahmed said northern leaders feel neglected under Tinubu’s government, particularly when compared with the level of federal resource allocation to Lagos and the South-West. He urged the administration to listen to complaints of marginalisation to avoid further discontent as another election cycle approaches.

Ahmed described the state of the nation as worrying, citing poverty, inflation, and widespread discontent. He said the government must act decisively to ease hardship and restore citizens’ trust in governance.

Looking ahead to off-season elections in Anambra, Ekiti, Osun, and the FCT, he said the NNPP has structures nationwide and will continue to field candidates despite financial and political constraints. He stressed that fair competition without intimidation or violence is key to sustaining Nigeria’s democracy.
