Former Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, says he will not align with President Bola Tinubu in his 2027 bid to govern the state.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday, Rhodes-Vivour said partnering with Tinubu would amount to a “complete waste of time,” stressing that his focus remains on improving the lives of Lagos residents.

“The reason why we are in politics is to make the lives of Lagosians better, to restore Lagos to its old glory — a greatness many may not be familiar with today,” he said.

Rhodes-Vivour argued that any party that prevents him from using Lagos’ resources for the benefit of its people is not worth his time. He also criticized what he described as the dominance of “agberocracy,” which he believes must be removed for Lagos to progress.
The politician, who recently left the Labour Party for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said his move was aimed at mounting a stronger challenge against the ruling party. He added that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was aware of his defection.
When asked if he would contest for governor in 2027 under the ADC, Rhodes-Vivour responded, “By God’s grace.”
