The All Progressives Congress Media Network has cautioned former President Goodluck Jonathan against yielding to calls to join the 2027 presidential race, describing it as a “lost battle.”

In a statement released in Uyo on Sunday, the group’s Director-General, Iniobong John, alleged that the push for Jonathan’s candidacy was a ploy to weaken South South support for President Bola Tinubu and eventually pave the way for a northern presidency.

The statement argued that Jonathan’s defeat as an incumbent in 2015 showed the difficulty he would face challenging another sitting president, particularly Tinubu, who the group said has consolidated political influence and will be “overwhelmingly re-elected” in 2027.
It urged Jonathan to protect his legacy by avoiding what it described as “the schemes of those who want to drag him into another electoral defeat,” stressing that the former president should place national stability above personal ambition.
