Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has stepped aside temporarily from his official duties as he begins a one-month vacation, leaving his deputy, Barrister Bayo Lawal, to run the affairs of the state in his absence.

The governor formally informed the Oyo State House of Assembly of his decision through a letter presented to lawmakers. The communication, read during plenary by Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin, detailed the governor’s plan to be away from August 29, 2025, until September 29, 2025.

The Nigerian Constitution makes it mandatory for governors to notify their state assemblies before embarking on leave, and Makinde followed this process by transmitting authority to his deputy. This ensures continuity in governance and prevents any gap in leadership.
