Gombe Governor Creates 13 New LCDAs

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has signed into law a bill establishing 13 new Local Council Development Areas in Gombe State.

The move expands local governance structures beyond the existing 11 local government areas, with the governor describing it as a major step toward bringing administration closer to the people.

The new LCDAs are Akko North (Amada), Akko West (Pindiga), Balanga South (Bambam), Billiri West (Taal), Dukku North (Malala), Funakaye South (Tongo), Gombe South (Bolari), Kaltungo East (Wange), Kwami West (Bojude), Nafada South (Birin-Fulani), Pero-Chonge (Filiya), Yamaltu East (Dadinkowa) and Yamaltu West (Zambuk). Each is expected to complement the work of the existing local governments across the state.

During the signing ceremony at Government House, Yahaya said the decision was backed by constitutional provisions that give states the power to make laws for order, peace, and good governance. He explained that the creation of the LCDAs aligns with the directive principles of state policy, which aim to promote equity, welfare, and fair development.

The governor gave clear instructions to both the existing councils and the new LCDAs to focus their energy on four critical areas—security, education, healthcare, and agriculture. He described these sectors as the foundation for building a safe and self-reliant state.

He directed immediate implementation, stating that every community must feel improved security, children must gain access to quality basic education, families must reach essential health services, and farmers must be supported to feed the population and grow the economy.

Yahaya warned against wasting resources on projects outside the set priorities, saying results in the four sectors must be visible within six months. He charged council chairmen and administrators to deliver measurable progress within this timeframe.

He assured that his administration would continue to strengthen grassroots governance and accelerate development, stressing that the creation of the LCDAs was not just a structural reform but also a commitment to improving the lives of people in every part of Gombe State.
