Shettima Leads Condolence Visit To Kogi Governor Over father’s Death

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Wednesday led a federal government delegation to Okene, Kogi State, to console Governor Usman Ododo and his family following the death of his father, Alhaji Ahmed Momohsani Ododo.

The delegation included Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Abubakar Kyari, and other top officials. They visited the Ododo family residence, where prayers were offered for the late patriarch and words of comfort extended to the governor and his relatives.

Shettima said the visit was on behalf of President Bola Tinubu to express solidarity with the Ododo family and the people of Kogi State. He described the passing of Pa Ododo as a loss that goes beyond the family, touching the state and the entire country.

Governor Ododo, in his response, expressed gratitude to the Vice President and his delegation for the visit. He said their presence brought comfort at a difficult time and reflected true leadership and compassion.

Also present during the condolence were Kogi State Deputy Governor Joel Salifu, former Governor Yahaya Bello, members of the state executive council, and lawmakers from the Kogi State House of Assembly.

Before the visit to Kogi, the Vice President had attended the third-day prayers in Maiduguri for his late in-law, Muhammad Modu Manga, who died on Monday, August 18, 2025. The deceased, who was married to Shettima’s elder sister Hajja Zara Shettima, left behind his wife and four children.

The prayer gathering in Maiduguri drew several dignitaries, including Governor Zulum, Senate Chief Whip Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, Minister Abubakar Kyari, members of the House of Representatives, Borno State lawmakers, senior government officials, Islamic scholars, and members of the business community.
